Ekadashi is a sacred day in the Hindu calendar, Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, it is a day marked by fasting, prayers, and spiritual reflection. In Lakshminarayanapuram, Ekadashi Kanakku holds deep cultural and spiritual significance, celebrated with immense devotion and grandeur. On this auspicious day: A morning Abhishekam (ritual bathing) is performed for Lord Gopalakrishna Swami on behalf of the devotee who has offered the Kanakku. In the evening, the Utsava Vigraham is brought out in a majestic Garuda Vahanam procession, accompanied by traditional music and chants, as it winds through the village. The deity visits the house of the Kanakku sponsor, where Kalpavahanam, a symbolic offering of a gold pendant, and Avil Nivedyam are performed in devotion. The procession concludes with the offering and distribution of special Neyyappam (ghee-fried sweet) and Kadala Sundal, both served as prasadam to all devotees. The larger-sized Neyyappam, famous across the region, is a much-awaited highlight of this event. This tradition beautifully blends personal devotion, temple ritual, and community participation, making Ekadashi Kanakku one of the most spiritually uplifting and culturally significant celebrations in the LN Puram temple calendar.
